I've written an abundance of words on Purple Medical Blog about the pros and cons of gastric bypass weight loss surgery. It's not something to be taken lightly as the risks are real and people sometimes have bad complications. Yet, the number of Americans having weight loss surgery more than quadrupled between 1998 and 2002 from 13,386 to 71,733. Well, I have to admit if people get results like the young woman in this video who went ahead and had gastric bypass surgery I could understand the enthusiasm.

Her appearance is certainly impressive. Weight loss surgery also called bariatric surgery such as gastric bypass and gastric band is becoming a more common but not routine way of dealing with severe obesity. The video is an eloquent testimony to the possible success of weight loss surgery. For many, the endless dieting and shelves of diet books have not payed off in permanent change. This woman certainly underwent a remarkable transformation and will no doubt inspire many to seriously consider gastric bypass surgery. I would still remind you that this is still major surgery. Any surgery has some risks attached starting with anesthesia.
